Panic gripped residents of Ulhasnagar Camp 1 late Tuesday night after a speeding car lost control and crashed into an electric pole near the MSEB office. The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 PM, when the vehicle, reportedly coming from the Birla Gate side, veered off course and rammed into the roadside infrastructure.
Eyewitnesses stated that a loud crash was heard across the area, prompting locals to rush out of their homes. Upon reaching the spot, they found the car severely damaged and the electric pole impacted due to the force of the collision. The accident raised immediate concerns about a potential power disruption, although major outages were avoided.
In a shocking turn, the driver fled the scene immediately after the crash, leaving the vehicle behind. This has fueled strong suspicion among locals that the driver may have been driving under the influence of alcohol. However, officials have not yet confirmed this angle.

Authorities are likely to initiate an investigation using nearby CCTV footage to trace the vehicle owner and identify the driver. Police are also expected to examine whether the car was registered in the name of the accused or someone else, and if any prior violations are linked to the vehicle.
Residents of the area have expressed growing concern over reckless driving and lack of strict enforcement during late-night hours. Many have demanded increased police patrolling, installation of speed breakers, and stricter penalties to prevent such incidents in the future.
Although no injuries were reported in this case, locals believe the outcome could have been far worse had pedestrians or other vehicles been present at the time. The incident serves as yet another reminder of the urgent need for improved road safety measures in Ulhasnagar.
