Ulhasnagar News: Omi Kalani’s birthday didn’t look like most. Instead of the usual cake and party stuff, he just asked everyone to skip the flowers and sweets this year—bring notebooks and pens instead. Things students actually need. No frills, just something that helps.
And people really listened. The turnout was wild. Thousands showed up near Gol Maidan at Dr. Shrikant Shinde’s office—everyone from shopkeepers and students to business leaders and women from all over town. By the end, the pile of supplies was massive: over 1.5 lakh notebooks, and so much more.
There was this buzz in the air. Local leaders, former mayors, folks from all sorts of political parties—they all turned up, shelves of rivalry set aside. Business owners and neighborhood groups pitched in whatever they could. It didn’t feel like a political thing or just another function. It felt bigger—like the city itself came together for something that actually mattered.
People still handed Omi a few bouquets or shawls—hey, some habits stick. But what everyone really noticed was the stack of school supplies, ready for kids who need them most. Starting June 15, when schools reopen, Omi’s team will pass these out all across Ulhasnagar, hoping to make things just a bit easier for kids who don’t always get a fair shot at school.
Omi thanked everyone—not just for being there, but for making it count. Leaders gave him credit for trading empty celebration for something real. Helping kids, supporting local businesses, pushing the city forward in small but solid ways. The whole thing sent a clear message: this city is ready to do its part, and it starts with simple actions like this.
Now, with boxes of notebooks waiting for new owners, there’s a real sense of hope. For thousands of kids, this birthday isn’t just a one-day affair—it’s a boost that sticks around.
