An unusual scene unfolded in Ulhasnagar on March 10, 2026, when a group of people consuming alcohol inside a public garden fled the spot after a surprise visit by the city’s mayor.According to reports the Mayor of Ulhasnagar,Ashwini Kamlesh Nikam conducted a sudden inspection of a local public garden Jamnu Purushottam ,along with municipal officials. The visit was part of routine checks aimed at reviewing the condition, cleanliness, and public use of city gardens.
During the inspection, the mayor and officials allegedly found several individuals consuming alcohol inside the garden, which is a public space where such activities are strictly prohibited.As soon as the group noticed the mayor and the accompanying officials approaching, they quickly fled the area, leaving behind liquor bottles and other items at the spot.The incident highlighted concerns about misuse of public gardens for drinking and other illegal activities, especially during evening hours when monitoring is limited.
Officials accompanying the mayor reportedly expressed concern that such behavior discourages families and children from visiting public parks.
