Rat Poison Scare Rocks Malad West Fruit Market.

Malad : On February 25, 2025, Mumbai Police arrested two fruit vendors in Malad West for allegedly applying Ratol, a toxic rat poison, to their produce.The incident took place at a roadside stall near Akshardham Society, Panhalal Ghosh Marg, in Malad West, Mumbai.The accused, identified as Manoj Sangamlal Kesarwani (42) and Rahul Sadanlal Kesarwani (25), were detained after a local resident caught them on camera and filed a police complaint.The sellers admitted to using the substance, claiming they applied it only to spoiled fruits to deter rats from damaging their remaining stock overnight.Malad Police sealed the shop and registered an FIR under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 125 (act endangering life) and others related to food adulteration. 

Health Risk Of Ratol

Ratol paste typically contains 3% yellow phosphorus, a highly poisonous chemical. Experts warn that even small amounts can cause as per National Institutes of Health Acute Symptom Severe vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea and Long-term Damage: Permanent liver and kidney failure.Ingesting doses greater than 1 mg/kg can be fatal, especially for children. Authorities and health experts strongly advise consumers to thoroughly wash all fruits and vegetables before consumption and to remain vigilant when purchasing from unregulated street vendors.
