A serious road accident involving popular Marathi actor Viraj Jagtap has raised major concerns over road safety in Badlapur. The incident occurred on the night of March 24, 2026, leaving the actor severely injured and triggering criticism of civic negligence.
According to reports, the accident took place around 10:00 PM near Adarsh Vidya Mandir Badlapur East. Jagtap was returning home on his two-wheeler when he suddenly encountered a large speed breaker that was reportedly not visible in the dark.
Locals claim the speed breaker lacked mandatory white reflective markings, making it difficult for motorists to spot it in time. As a result, the actor lost control of his vehicle and fell, suffering serious injuries.
The actor sustained major injuries to his hands and legs, with a particularly critical injury to his wrist. He was rushed for medical treatment and has since successfully undergone surgery on his hand.Doctors have advised rest, and Jagtap is expected to take a break from his acting commitments during recovery. He is widely known for his performances in the popular comedy show Maharashtrachi Hasyajatra.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage among residents, who have blamed poor infrastructure and lack of proper road markings for the accident. Many locals have described such unmarked speed breakers as “Yamdut” (messengers of death), citing the danger they pose to motorists, especially at night.
Citizens are demanding immediate action from authorities to ensure proper visibility, signage, and maintenance of speed breakers across the city.
Residents and activists have urged the administration to conduct a safety audit of roads and fix hazardous spots before more accidents occur. They argue that such negligence could cost lives if not addressed urgently.
The accident involving Viraj Jagtap has once again highlighted the dangers of poorly maintained road infrastructure. While the actor is on the road to recovery, the incident serves as a wake-up call for authorities to prioritize public safety and prevent such avoidable accidents in the future.
