Language Row Erupts at Bharat Gas Agency in Thane Staff’s ‘Speak in Hindi’ Remark Sparks Outrage.

A controversy has erupted in Thane after employees at a Bharat Gas distribution agency were accused of rude behavior and refusing to communicate in Marathi with a customer. The incident reportedly took place around March 14, 2026, at Sai Shubham Gas Service.

According to reports, a consumer had visited the gas agency in the Anandnagar (West) area to inquire about issues related to gas booking and supply. During the interaction, staff members allegedly behaved rudely and refused to speak in Marathi, which led to a heated argument. The situation escalated after videos of the argument surfaced on social media. In the footage, agency staff are allegedly heard telling the customer, “Not Marathi, speak in Hindi.”

In another part of the video, an employee reportedly challenged the customer to complain to the government if they had the courage, while insisting they would not speak in Marathi. The clips quickly went viral across platforms like Instagram and Facebook, drawing widespread reactions from local residents.

The dispute comes at a time when the Thane region is already facing issues related to LPG supply shortages, with some businesses alleging that commercial cylinders are being sold at inflated prices in the black market. This broader context has further intensified public anger surrounding the incident.

Leaders from Shiv Sena (UBT) and other local political groups have strongly condemned the incident, calling it an insult to Marathi language and identity in Maharashtra.Several leaders have demanded strict action against the agency and warned that businesses operating in the state must respect the local language and people.

Following the viral videos, many citizens have demanded that authorities investigate the matter and take appropriate action if the allegations are confirmed. The incident has once again sparked a wider debate in Maharashtra about respect for the Marathi language in public services and private businesses operating in the state.
