Ulhasnagar: Reliance Digital Electronics Store Sealed By UMC.

Ulhasnagar News : A Reliance Digital electronics store in Ulhasnagar, Maharashtra, which was recently targeted by the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) as part of a crackdown on property tax arrears to recover property tax arrears. Under the leadership of Neelam Kadam, the Tax Assessor and Collector, the civic body has been sealing properties and disconnecting water services for major defaulters.The UMC has initiated strict recovery measures against major tax defaulters in the city, which includes sealing commercial properties and issuing notices to recover outstanding dues.

The UMC has launched a “vigorous campaign” to improve its financial position, as property tax is its primary source of development funds.  Actions include issuing warrants, property confiscation (sealing), and disconnecting water supplies for non-payment.The UMC recently identified and published a list of the 100 biggest property tax defaulters, which includes prominent builders and local politicians.In one 10-day period in early 2025, the department disconnected  128 water connections and issued warrants to over 3,100 households.To encourage payment, the UMC occasionally runs the Abhay Yojana (Amnesty Scheme), offering up to a 100% waiver on late payment penalties. However, for the 2024-25 period, officials initially stated this scheme would not be implemented to maintain strictness.
