Mulund : On Saturday, February 14, 2026, at approximately 12:20 PM, a portion of a parapet segment from an under-construction metro pillar Metro Line 4 collapsed on LBS Road in Mulund West, Mumbai. The concrete segment fell from a height, striking a passing autorickshaw and an SUV in front of the Johnson & Johnson factory.One person, identified as Ramdhan Yadav, died in the incident.Four others were injured, with one person, Rajkumar Yadav (45), in critical condition in the ICU.Mahendra Yadav (52) and Deepa Ruhiya (40) are reported to be in stable condition.All victims were admitted to Upasana Multispeciality Hospital. A cement segment of the pillar gave way during ongoing work. Mayor Ritu Tawde noted a possible case of negligence, stating that the newly placed segment should have been barricaded.Teams from the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), local police, metro authorities, and 108 ambulance services conducted rescue operations.The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) confirmed the incident and stated that their project team is working on securing the site.
Recent Update : A tragic accident on February 14, 2026, in Mumbai’s Mulund (West), the family of a man killed by a collapsing metro slab initially refused to accept his body, demanding ₹2 crore in compensation and a government job for his daughter.The accident occurred at approximately 12:15 PM on LBS Road near the Johnson & Johnson factory. A precast concrete parapet segment from the under-construction Metro Line 4 viaduct fell from a height, crushing an autorickshaw and damaging a car. The deceased was identified as Ramdhani (Ramdhan) Yadav, a 55-year-old village head (sarpanch) from Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh.Three others were injured, including Rajkumar Indrajeet Yadav (45), who was in critical condition. Following the accident, the family and members of the Yadav community staged a protest at the site. While they initially demanded ₹2 crore and a government job, they eventually accepted a settlement and collected the body on February 16, 2026. The family accepted a total of ₹39.5 lakh, consisting of ₹15 lakh from the MMRDA.₹24.5 lakh from the subcontractor, Milan Road Buildtech. The state had initially offered an ex-gratia of ₹5 lakh, which the family rejected as “grossly inadequate”.Five officials from the construction and consulting firms were arrested on charges including negligence.The MMRDA imposed a ₹5 crore fine on the contractor (M/s Rajv-Milan) and a ₹1 crore fine on the general consultant.Metro 4 Executive Engineer Satyajit Salve was suspended A high-level inquiry has been ordered to check construction safety protocols across the entire Metro 4 corridor.
