Nagpur : On Thursday, March 5, 2026, a 34-year-old man named Sagar Wankhede was brutally murdered in broad daylight on the Khaperkheda–Koradi road in Nagpur district, Maharashtra. Police have arrested Raju Gajbhiye (37) and his wife Sonali Gajbhiye (34) in connection with the killing.
Sonali allegedly lured Sagar, who worked in Pune and had returned to his native village for Holi, to meet her. On Thursday morning, Sagar arrived on a motorcycle and Sonali joined him.Near the Kolar river bridge, Sonali reportedly pretended to drop her purse to make Sagar stop the bike. When he stopped, she attacked him with a knife. Her husband, Raju, who had been following them, joined the attack and stabbed Sagar multiple times.Sagar sustained severe injuries and died on the spot. Despite the attack occurring in public view, no passers-by intervened as the couple was armed.
Sagar and Sonali were reportedly acquainted since their school days and had been in a relationship before her marriage in 2011.The investigation revealed they remained in contact via social media, despite Sonali being married and having two children.Raju had previously filed a complaint about their relationship at the Khaperkheda police station. The final trigger for the murder was allegedly a message from Sagar urging Sonali to leave for Pune with him. The couple was detained by the Koradi police shortly after the incident and has reportedly confessed to the crime.
