Ulhasnagar : A Big turmoil in Ulhasnagar politics, former 4-term MLA Pappu Kalani joins the RPI Athawale group. This  likely refers to a historical or specific local political development, as Pappu Kalani’s association with the Republican Party of India (Athawale) dates back to at least 2004, when he won the Ulhasnagar assembly elections as a candidate for that party. The current political landscape in Ulhasnagar involving the Kalani family is as follows. The Kalani family, led by Pappu’s son Omie Kalani, has recently been aligned with the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) faction.

In recent 2026 municipal elections, the Kalani family’s influence was noted to be transitioning, with some reports suggesting they were active through Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena for distributing official party forms. The long-standing rivalry continues between the Kalani family and BJP MLA Kumar Ailani.

Conclusion –

Having been convicted in a murder case, Pappu Kalani is generally unable to contest elections himself and has largely handed over political operations to his son, Omie Kalani.
