Wadala : On Friday, February 27, 2026, a 28-year-old cab driver, Mohammad Siddiqui, was killed in a horrific accident on BPT Road in Wadala, Mumbai, when a 40-tonne industrial machine part fell from a moving container trailer and crushed his vehicle. The incident occurred at approximately 12:55 AM (or around 1:30 AM according to some reports) on Friday below the Eastern Freeway flyover at Kharganga Jal, Wadala East.A container truck traveling from Mumbai Port to a factory in Surat was carrying a massive 40-tonne iron slab/machinery part. The driver reportedly applied sudden brakes after hitting an uneven stretch of road, causing the heavy load to break free from its moorings and topple onto the passing cab.The deceased, identified as Mohammad Siddiqui (also reported as Mohammad Jamil Assaudhin Siddiqui), was driving an aggregator cab (Maruti Ertiga). He had just dropped off a passenger in Sewri and was heading toward Chembur when the accident happened. He was declared dead on arrival at KEM Hospital. It took nearly six hours and the use of three cranes to shift the 40-tonne machine and extract the driver from the mangled car, with the operation concluding around 8:00 AM.
Conclusion –
The Wadala Police have detained the trailer driver for questioning and launched an investigation into the incident, citing potential negligence in securing the heavy cargo. The uneven condition of BPT Road, which is heavily used by port traffic, has also been noted as a contributing factor.
