Badlapur Demolition Drive Conducted By Badlapur Municipal Council.

Badlapur : On February 23, 2026, a demolition drive conducted by the Kulgaon Badlapur Municipal Council (KBMC) sparked intense protests in Badlapur, Maharashtra, as angry shopkeepers blocked a JCB machine to halt the civic action. Shopkeepers and traders physically blocked the JCB machine used for the demolition, raising slogans against the municipal administration. The protesters demanded compensation for the financial losses incurred due to the civic body’s action. The demolition is part of an ongoing anti-encroachment drive following Bombay High Court orders related to illegal constructions in the city. The KBMC has identified approximately 438 illegal structures for removal.

The drive had intensified in early February 2026, targeting hotels, dhabas, and various stalls along main roads like the Karjat highway. While some actions were briefly postponed in early February due to political opposition and requests for more time, the municipal council resumed the drive later in the month.
