In a major crackdown, the Thane Crime Branch has rearrested social media influencer and builder Surendra Pandurang Patil, popularly known as the “Reel Star,” after recovering a large cache of illegal weapons from his residence.
Midnight Raid in Dombivli
The dramatic development comes just two weeks after Patil was released on bail. Acting on specific inputs, police conducted a midnight raid at his bungalow in the Dawdi area of Dombivli, leading to the shocking recovery.
Weapons Hidden in Secret Compartment
During the search, officials discovered a concealed compartment inside a newly installed shoe rack, where a significant arsenal was hidden. The seizure includes:
- 7 firearms (5 country-made pistols/revolvers and 2 air guns)
- 371 live cartridges and 167 air gun pellets
- Sharp weapons such as swords, choppers, knives, and iron rods
The total value of the seized weapons is estimated at around ₹10 lakh, according to police sources.
Fresh Charges Filed
Following the recovery, Patil has been booked under provisions of the Arms Act and the Maharashtra Police Act. Authorities suspect that the weapons were fully functional, contradicting Patil’s claim that they were merely props used for his social media videos.
Social Media Persona Under Scanner
Patil enjoys a substantial online following, with over 3 lakh followers on Instagram, where he frequently posts “gangster-style” reels. Investigators are now probing whether his online persona had any connection to real-world criminal activities or networks.
Controversial Past
This is not the first time Patil has been in the spotlight. He was previously jailed in connection with a rape case involving a 19-year-old woman, in which he was recently granted relief after the victim’s statement.
In another controversial incident in 2022, he had filmed himself sitting in a senior police officer’s chair at the Manpada police station, drawing widespread criticism.
Investigation Ongoing
The Crime Branch is now expanding its probe to determine the source of the weapons and any potential links to organized crime. Officials have indicated that further arrests or revelations may follow as the investigation progresses. The case has once again raised serious concerns over the glorification of criminal behavior on social media and its possible real-life implications.
