A fresh wave of fear has gripped residents of Pune after the notorious “Koyta Gang” resurfaced in the Kothrud area, continuing a troubling pattern of violent and intimidating behavior.
On March 20, 2026, members of the gang allegedly carried out acts of vandalism in Shravan Dhara Vasahat and Dhananjay Society in Kothrud. According to reports, the accused damaged property, created chaos, and threatened locals using sharp weapons like koytas (sickles). The incident is believed to have stemmed from an old dispute.

The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the housing societies. The footage, which is now circulating widely, shows a group of youths moving aggressively through the area, damaging property and spreading fear among residents.
The so-called “Koyta Gang” has been linked to multiple such incidents across Pune in recent months. These groups, often consisting of young individuals, use sickles and other sharp weapons to intimidate people, settle minor disputes, and establish dominance in local areas.
Locals in Kothrud have expressed serious concern over the increasing frequency of such incidents. Many residents are now demanding stronger police action, increased patrolling, and stricter measures to curb the growing menace.
Police have taken note of the incident and are analyzing CCTV footage to identify and apprehend those involved. Officials have assured that strict action will be taken against the accused and efforts are being made to prevent such acts in the future.The repeated emergence of such gangs highlights a worrying trend in urban crime, raising questions about public safety and the need for swift and effective law enforcement.
