In a significant intervention, police in Satna took strict action against a group of youths accused of harassing schoolgirls and female college students near educational institutions, following days of mounting complaints and public outrage.
According to local reports from March 2026, several students and residents had raised concerns about persistent harassment by a group of young men near a girls’ college and nearby schools. The situation escalated after a video showing the youths engaging in misconduct near a college gate went viral on social media, drawing widespread criticism.
Acting on the complaints and viral evidence, the Madhya Pradesh Police launched an operation to identify those involved. Authorities detained multiple accused individuals and initiated action to curb such behavior in the area.
In what many have described as a “stringent” or “creative” form of justice, police reportedly subjected the accused to public humiliation. Their heads and moustaches were shaved, and in some cases, their hair was styled into multiple ponytails.Officials stated that the move was intended as a strong deterrent against harassment and to send a clear message that such actions would not be tolerated.
Public Apology
The accused were also made to publicly apologize for their behavior. In a symbolic gesture, they addressed local women respectfully as “didis” (sisters), acknowledging their wrongdoing and seeking forgiveness.The incident has triggered mixed reactions. While many locals praised the police for taking decisive action to ensure the safety of girls, others have raised questions about the appropriateness and legality of such public humiliation as punishment.
